A jury in New York reached a split verdict in the retrial of Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood producer accused of sex crimes. The jury found Weinstein guilty of a criminal sexual act in the first degree against Miriam Haley but not guilty of the same charge involving Kaja Sokola. Deliberations continue for the charge involving Jessica Mann.
The retrial has been marked by tension among jurors, with reports of heated exchanges and threats of violence. Judge Curtis Farber sent the jury home early to allow time for tempers to cool before resuming deliberations. Weinstein, who previously had a 23-year sentence overturned, requested a mistrial, claiming unfair treatment. Judge Farber denied this request.
Weinstein, aged 73, has faced accusations of using his power to exploit young women, promising career opportunities in exchange for sexual favors. The retrial continues to unfold, with the jury expected to deliberate further on the remaining charge.
