Fall is officially coming to a close and the holiday season is in full swing, bringing with it thoughts of cheer, hopes for a White Christmas and plans to spend quality time with loved ones.
Some revelers, however, may be looking to get away for a restful winter vacation that still offers plenty of local shops to visit, exciting scenery to explore and fun cold-weather attractions to experience, from ski resorts with twisting slopes to cabins nestled along a snow-capped mountain.
According to a list compiled by Reader's Digest, the "best winter destination" in all of North Carolina is Asheville. This popular city was praised for its plentiful attractions, delicious restaurants and beautiful views.
Here's what Reader's Digest had to say about the best winter destination in the entire state:
"Tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains, the 'Paris of the South' is home to America's Downton Abbey-like mansion, the grand Biltmore Estate. Winter visitors won't face the historic home's summer crowds, and can experience A Vanderbilt House Party. Downtown Asheville, known for it art, music, food, and beer scene, also makes for a lively winter getaway. After browsing the many shops and galleries, visitors have their pick of great restaurants... Surprisingly, Asheville itself gets very little snow, but ski resorts in snow-covered mountains are less than an hour away."
