(Asheville, NC) -- Accusations of racism are causing members of one UNC-Asheville sorority to leave. The former vice president for Alpha Xi Delta told WLOS-TV that white sorority members and the national office had no interest in creating a diversity, equity and inclusion committee. At least 20 members have dropped out of the sorority since then. The local chapter is now suspended in the wake of the members' decisions to leave.
Body Of Missing Teen Found In Swannanoa River
(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville Police are investigating the discovery of a body in the Swannanoa River. Emergency responders found 19-year-old Jose Ramirez after someone reported an anonymous tip last Saturday. Ramirez was reportedly last seen in Woodfin a week ago. The case is currently considered a homicide.
Federal Flooding Assistance Extending To Four WNC Counties
(Waynesville, NC) -- Federal assistance is being extended to four western North Carolina counties affected by Tropical Storm Fred. FEMA is now offering help to those residents in Ashe, Graham, Jackson and Mitchell counties. Applications for public assistance are due by the end of the month. Residents in seven other counties need to apply for help by this Thursday.

Health and Human Services reported just over 22-hundred new cases yesterday, which is the lowest amount in around two-months. Hospitalizations have declined more than 12-hundred from this time a month ago.
Trails Still Closed Near Site Of Bear Attack
(Asheville, NC) -- Some trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway will remain closed over the next few days. National Park Service officials shut down areas near the Folk Art Center in Asheville after a couple was attacked by a bear last week. The couple's dog allegedly ran towards the bear while barking, which park officials say caused the attack. The bear hasn't been found.
Brevard College Names New President
(Brevard, NC) -- A new president is coming on board at Brevard College. The school's board of trustees unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Bradley Andrews as the 14th president in Brevard's history. Andrews will start the position in January after serving as president of Southwestern College in Kansas. The chair of the presidential search committee said yesterday the board and president will take the college into the future with program offerings, retention initiatives and education experiences.
Monroe Officer Kills Dog In Bus Stop Attack
(Monroe, NC) -- Monroe Police say an officer shot and killed a dog after an attack at a bus stop yesterday. A woman was reportedly shielding her child from an attack as the five-year-old was exiting a bus at Old Charlotte Highway and Wilson Avenue in Monroe. A responding officer fired a shot as the German Shepherd-pit bull mix then ran towards him. It's unclear whether animal control investigators have decided to charge the dog's owner.
Gun Found In Union County Student's Backpack
(Union County, NC) -- A student is accused of bringing a gun on campus at a Union County school. A school resource officer confiscated a nine-millimeter pistol from the backpack near the football stadium at Forest Hills High School yesterday. No threat was made in the incident. Charges are now expected to be filed against the teen.

Woman Dead In North Charlotte Homicide
