Henderson County Deputy Dies After Shooting

(Henderson County, NC) -- Flags are at half-staff at the Henderson County Sheriff's Office in honor of a fallen deputy. Thirty-five-year-old Deputy Ryan Hendrix died after he was reportedly shot by a man suspected of breaking to a car in the Mountain Home community early Thursday morning. Other deputies at the scene returned fire and killed the suspect. Hendrix was an eight-year veteran with the sheriff's office.

Trump Junior Visits Hendersonville

(Hendersonville, NC) -- Another week of visits by the Trump campaign in North Carolina is in the books. Donald Trump, Junior spoke yesterday at a rally at Point Lookout Vineyards in Hendersonville. Both the president and son Eric Trump already visited the Tarheel state earlier this week. Trump, Junior spoke on the importance of supporting Congressional candidate Madison Cawthorn in the 11th district race. The president initially supported Cawthorn's challenger in the Republican primary earlier this year.

Three Die In Boone Nursing Home

(Boone, NC) -- Three nursing home deaths from COVID-19 are being reported in Watauga County. AppHealthCare officials say three residents with underlying conditions at Glenbridge Health and Rehab died earlier this week. Seventeen staff members were reported with positive cases on September 3rd.

Buncombe Sheriff Outlines Equity Policy

(Buncombe County, NC) -- Buncombe County's sheriff is trying to push for fairness in the workplace. Quentin Miller released a new Fairness and Equity Policy yesterday, which outlines the department's commitment to eliminate bias based on things like race, gender, religion and sexual orientation. Buncombe's deputies and detention officers will go through multiple training classes a year on anti-bias concepts. Sheriff Miller said it's a move into 21st century policing.

NC COVID-19 Deaths Near Three-Thousand

(Raleigh, NC) -- Deaths due to COVID-19 are close to passing another undesirable milestone in North Carolina. Public health officials reported yesterday the state's total death count during the pandemic is just under three-thousand. There have been over 180-thousand cases total in North Carolina. The latest positivity rate for administered tests reported on September 8th was at six-point-three-percent.

Road Work On 441 Continues Another Year

(Sylva, NC) -- Construction work on U.S. 441 on Cowee Mountain is expected to continue for another year. The DOT said the highway has been settling for several years, so crews are stabilizing the surrounding hillside and restoring four-lanes. The total cost will run about six-million-dollars.

Two Charged In Deadly Shooting Of Child

(Charlotte, NC) -- Two people are facing charges connected to the shooting death of a Charlotte five-year-old. The CMPD says the girl was shot inside a home on Elgywood Lane in northeast Charlotte Wednesday night. A 14-year-old was arrested on a charge on involuntary manslaughter, while an adult is accused of failing to secure a firearm. Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles is urging gun owners to lock up their firearms.

Flags On I-77 Fly In Memory Of September 11th

(Fort Mill, SC) -- American flags are flying today over I-77 in Fort Mill in memory of 9-11. It's been a yearly tradition on Sutton Road at Exit 83. Fort Mill Police are sending out officers to make sure everyone there waving flags remains safe. The response comes after an armed man allegedly opened fire towards Trump supporters on the bridge in late August.

CMPD Investigating Another Homicide

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating the city's 85th homicide of the year. Officers arrived to Denson Place and Tipperary Place early Thursday to find a woman shot to death inside car. The suspect was caught fighting with a witness in a nearby yard. Investigators say they believe the suspect and victim were involved in a relationship previously.

Train And Car Collide In SW Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- A driver is accused of causing a train crash in southwest Charlotte. The CMPD says a 62-year-old allegedly drove a car around the crossing arm on the light rail tracks at Sweden Road and South Boulevard yesterday afternoon. The train collided with the car, which sent the driver to the hospital with injuries. No passengers on the train were injured.

Speedway Plans Drive-In Concert Series

(Charlotte, NC) -- A new drive-in concert series is planned for the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The promoting group, Prime Social Group, is coordinating events where bands will perform on the speedway backstretch with guests remaining in their cars. The show will be broadcast over the track's large 16-thousand-square foot screen. Tickets will start at 130-dollars-per-car, with up to six people allowed in each vehicle.

Rape Suspect Shot By Officer In Fayetteville

(Fayetteville, NC) -- The SBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Fayetteville. A police detective assigned to a U.S. Marshals unit reportedly shot an armed man on Raeford Road west of downtown Thursday afternoon. The man was wanted for two rape warrants in Tennessee. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Raleigh Man Arrested One Month After Murder

(Raleigh, NC) -- A Raleigh man who spent over a month on the run is now in jail for murder. Investigators say Allen Williams is accused of shooting a man to death on Beauty Avenue at the beginning of August. He was arrested late Wednesday night, several weeks after he was named the main suspect on August 6th. Williams remains in Wake County Detention.

Local Efforts Underway To Start In-Person Instruction In Wake County

(Wake County, NC) -- Pressure is mounting from supporters of sending students back into the classroom in Wake County. A Facebook group called "Wake County Families to Safely Reopen Schools" has gained the support from over 16-hundred people as of Thursday. The creator of the page told ABC11 she wants more information on why Plan B hasn't started. A separate group has also led a petition to provide 100-percent face-to-face instruction, with more than 15-hundred supporters.

Three Injured In Dunn Drive-By Shooting

(Dunn, NC) -- Investigators are searching for the suspect in a drive-by shooting in Dunn. Three people were injured on East Vance Street last night. Officers say their injuries weren't considered to be life-threatening. There's no word on a description of the suspects, but the getaway car was reportedly a white passenger vehicle.

Jet Blue Adds First West Coast Trip At RDU

(Raleigh, NC) -- Jet Blue is adding its first-ever West Coast flights out of Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The airline announced yesterday it's going to add five new non-stop flights at RDU beginning this fall, including one to Los Angeles. Also back in the mix will be the first international flights from Raleigh since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Jet Blue will offer trips to Mexico, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.

Man Viciously Attacked By Dog In Graham

(Graham, NC) -- A man is recovering after he was viscously attacked by a dog in Graham. The scene unfolded yesterday afternoon in the 400-block of North Street. Officers say when they arrived to the home, two dogs were actively attacking a man in the backyard. In order to stop the attack, officers shot the dogs, killing one of them. The victim, who's a relative of the dogs' owner, was taken to a local trauma center with serious injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

Man Accused of Raping Child In Randolph Co.

(Randolph Co., NC) -- A man is in jail on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child in Randolph County. Thirty-year-old Christopher Tate was taken into custody yesterday and charged with statutory rape of a child, forcible rape, and felony indecent liberties with a child. The incident happened on August 31st in the Flint Hill Road area of Sophia. Tate is being held at the Randolph County Detention Center on a 500-thousand-dollar bond.

Homicide Under Investigation At Alamance Co. Mobile Home Park

(Mebane, NC) -- A death investigation is underway at a mobile home park in Alamance County. Deputies were called to the Shady Grove Mobile Home Park on U.S. Highway 70 in Mebane yesterday about a dead body. Twenty-two-year-old Ryan Hogan was found dead from a single gunshot wound. Police are looking for two men who were driving a burgundy Honda Accord in connection with the crime. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Greensboro Virus Relief Taskforce Accepting Applications

(Greensboro, NC) -- Nonprofits in Greensboro that are focused on providing housing and employment services during the coronavirus pandemic can now apply for up to 25-thousand dollars in funding. The Greensboro Virus Relief Task Force is awarding five grants to non-profits in the city. The relief fund was sent up with the help of the United Way of Greater Greensboro and the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. Nonprofits that are interested can apply at United-Way-GSO-dot-org.
