Confederate Statues Being Removed\

(Raleigh, NC) -- Some Confederate monuments are ordered to be removed by Governor Roy Cooper. Crews spent most of Sunday bringing down a 75-foot tall Confederate soldier monument in downtown Raleigh. Cooper announced on Saturday that three monuments were being removed from the Capitol grounds to protect public safety. Two other Confederate soldier statues were pulled down by protesters on Friday night.

New Coronavirus Cases Surge Upward

(Raleigh, NC) -- New case numbers of coronavirus are still rising at a high pace. Health and Human Services officials reported another 14-hundred cases yesterday, bringing the statewide total close to 53-thousand. The number of current hospitalizations due to COVID-19 did drop back down a little to 845. Buncombe, Henderson and Macon counties dominate case totals in western North Carolina.

Two Sides Protest In Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- Opposing voices of protests are being heard in Asheville. A group of pro-police supporters gathered at the Vance Monument on Saturday carrying American flags. Some of those demonstrators carried All Lives Matter or Police Lives Matter signs. A group of Black Lives Matter supporters were downtown as well Saturday. WLOS-TV reports one person said all lives can't matter until black lives also matter.

Suspicious Fire Investigated In Downtown Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- State officials are helping in the investigation of a fire in downtown Asheville. They're still looking for the cause of a blaze that tore through an under-construction housing development on Hilliard Avenue early Friday morning. Crews were in the process of building 34 units, which are all now destroyed. There were no injuries reported.

Governor Signs Bill Allowing License Without Road Test

(Raleigh, NC) -- Teenagers are now able to get a drivers license without taking a road test in North Carolina. Governor Roy Cooper signed the bill Friday, which provides good news for 16 and 17-year-olds who have been waiting since the coronavirus pandemic forced a halt to the in-person tests. The teens must still stop by a DMV office with a parent or guardian to obtain the license. Road tests will be necessary once they can begin again.

Primary Runoff Tomorrow

(Undated) -- The Republican primary winner for western North Carolina's eleventh Congressional district will be known tomorrow. The ballot features a runoff between Lynda Bennett and Madison Cawthorne. The winner will take on Democrat Moe Davis in November. Former Congressman Mark Meadows stepped down from the seat to become the White House chief of staff.

Officers Injured During Skirmishes With Protesters Over Removal Of Confederate Statues

(Raleigh, NC) -- Several Raleigh police officers were reportedly injured Friday night while attempting to stop protesters from pulling down Confederate statues on the Capitol grounds. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, the injuries included one officer who suffered a fractured wrist, another who received cuts to the hand and another whose eyes were injured after someone threw an unknown liquid into his face. One person was arrested and charged with assault on a law enforcement officer.

Businesses Await Cooper's Decision On Phase 3 Reopening

(Raleigh, NC) -- Governor Roy Cooper is expected to disclose sometime this week whether he will move the state into Phase 2-point-5 or Phase 3 of reopening. Last Friday, the Governor vetoed a bill passed by the North Carolina General Assembly that would have allowed gyms and bowling alleys to reopen. There is strong speculation that if Cooper does order a Phase 3 reopening, it will include a statewide mandate that everyone wear a face covering.

Police Continue To Search For Shooter In Death Of 19-year Old

(Durham, NC) -- Durham police are asking the public for help in locating the suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man Sunday night on Danube Lane. Authorities have not released additional details about the deadly incident, only that the victim is a 19-year old male. No arrest have been made, and investigators say the suspect is still on the loose. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or the Durham Police Department.

Graham Police Arrest Two Counter-Protestors Near Confederate Statue

(Graham, NC) - Graham police are announcing a pair of arrests after several people gathered outside the city's Confederate monument over the weekend. Groups with opposing viewpoints were gathered near the monument at the historic courthouse Saturday night when an officer witnessed Chadwick Hightower swing his hands at a person taking pictures. Another person, Christopher Overman, is accused of hitting a lady in the arm. Both men were arrested for disorderly conduct and assault.

One Love' Mural Painted On Greensboro Street

(Greensboro, NC) - A street in Greensboro is now decorated with a mural in honor of the Black Lives Matter movement. The "One Love" mural was painted on Davie Street by a local artist. It's the first project approved under Greensboro's new Street Mural Program and the city's office of arts and culture.

Section Of Main St. In Winston-Salem Closed For Mural Viewing

(Winston-Salem, NC) - A section of Main Street in Winston-Salem is closed so people can view a new street mural in the center lane. The "End Racism Now" mural is located on Main Street, between First and Second streets. That area is closed until seven o'clock this morning for people to view the project. It took 16 artists to complete.

Virtual Job Fair This Week In Guilford Co.

(Guilford Co,. NC) - A virtual job fair will be held tomorrow by Guilford County health care employers. They include Cone Health, Novant Health, Wake Forest Baptist Health and Duke Health. All types of jobs are available with different skill-sets. Jobseekers will be directed to virtual rooms to meet and speak with employers between 10 a.m. and noon. Organizers say 250 people have already registered for the event.

One Dead In University City Homicide

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a University City homicide. Officers found one person dead at the Edge apartments on Varsity Lane late last night. A suspect is in jail for a separate homicide in north Charlotte yesterday. A man was shot at a home on Mona Drive.

Body Of Missing Swimmer Found

(York County, SC) -- The search for a missing swimmer is over in York County. Crews were called out to a Catawba River Access near Lake Wylie last night. The Fort Mill dam was closed during the search. The body was found within a couple of hours. There's no word on exactly what happened.

Lincoln County Father Arrested For Child's Death

(Lincoln County, NC) -- A Lincoln County man is in jail for the murder of his toddler son. Emergency officials were unable to revive the two-year-old boy when they arrived to find him not breathing at a home on Horseshoe Lake Road earlier this month. The boy reportedly had several visible injuries. Deputies arrested 54-year-old Baron Charles for murder.

(York County, SC) -- A woman is facing charges in a shooting that killed one and injured another in York County. The shooting happened on Carolina Avenue Extension in Rock Hill late last month. The injured victim is expected to recover. A 23-year-old woman was arrested for murder, attempted murder and other charges on Saturday.
