Elections Being Held In Triangle Cities And Municipalities Today

(Durham, NC) -- Several Triangle cities are holding elections today. Voters are being asked to decide on candidates for mayor and city council in Durham, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest and a number of other local municipalities. Durham voters will also cast ballots on a referendum calling for a bond issue for affordable housing. And, voters in Orange County will select school board members.

Gun Violence In Durham Tops Discussion At City Council Meeting

(Durham, NC) -- The recent spike in the number of shootings dominated the discussions at last night's Durham city council meeting. Members expressed disgust over the six shootings last week that resulted in two deaths. So far this year, there have been 32 homicides committed in Durham. The police department reports that from January through September, 145 people had been wounded by gunfire. Law enforcement attributes the problem to gang activity.

Lawmakers Ordered Back To Work On New District Maps

(Raleigh, NC) -- An interim legislative committee on redistricting will meet today in Raleigh to resume work on redrawing the state's congressional district lines. This comes after a North Carolina Superior Court ruled last week, that current district maps could not be used in the upcoming 2020 elections. The judges said there was a strong possibility that the current maps would be struck down in court.

Raid Nets Over Four Million In Hallucinogenic Drugs

(Wake Forest, NC) -- Two men are in custody in Wake County after a raid of their home uncovered a drug lab worth an estimated four-million dollars. Wake County Sheriff's deputies discovered the lab inside a home on Flaherty Avenue. They say the lab was being used to produce hallucinogenic drugs. Thirty-five-year-old Benjamin Lumpkin and 33-year- old Daniel Hawkins were both taken into custody and charged with the manufacturing of a schedule one drug. Bond has been set at 850-thousand dollars.

21-Year-Old Woman Missing Since Friday

(Orrum, NC) -- The search continues for a Robeson County woman who has been missing for nearly five days. Authorities say 21-year-old Destiny Hudson of Orrum, has not been seen or communicated with since around 1 p.m. Friday. She is described as being around five-feet-six inches tall, 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Robeson County Sheriff's Department.

Four Children Treated After Being Exposed To Carbon Monoxide

(Garner, NC) -- Officials in Garner treated four children Monday after they reportedly were exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning. Investigators say the toxic fumes are believed to have seeped into the house from an outside generator that was being powered by natural gas. Fire officials warn that the level of carbon monoxide from portable generators can be 100-times greater than cars. They suggest placing generators at least 15-feet from a house.

Man Charged With Murder In Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- A man is being formally charged with the 2004 murder of a woman in Charlotte. Anthony Aikens was charged on Friday after being extradited from a New York prison. The body of Mai Edwina Cooper was found in the trunk of an abandoned car in July of 2004. CMPD detectives identified Aikens as the alleged killer in 2016 before getting warrants for his arrest.

CMPD Patrolling Greenway Following Weekend Attack

(Charlotte, NC) -- CMPD is stepping up patrols near a north Charlotte greenway after a man sexually assaulted a woman. Police say they're testing some of the attacker's clothing to try and identify him. They say Sunday's attack at the Mallard Creek Greenway isn't connected to another attack on the same greenway two months ago. Police say they're going to have a presence on the trail to ensure the public's safety.

Matthews Police Looking For Missing Man With Cognitive Impairment

(Matthews, NC) -- Matthews police are asking for help finding a missing man with a cognitive impairment. They say 60-year-old John Anthony Carter hasn't been seen since October 31st. Carter is described as being white, six-feet and 110 pounds.

Korean War Soldier's Remains To Be Buried In Gastonia

(Gaston Co., NC -- A Korean War soldier from Gaston County is returning home for burial. Army Corporal Earl W. Duncan was reported missing in action after Chinese communists launched a surprise attack in North Korea in November of 1950. The McAdenville native's body was unaccounted for until North Korea turned over dozens of boxes containing remains of American service personnel last summer. Duncan will be buried November 30th in Gastonia after DNA testing confirmed his remains were among the boxes.

Four Children Hospitalized After Being Exposed To CO

(Garner, NC) -- Four children are recovering from carbon monoxide exposure in Garner. The children were taken to WakeMed hospital yesterday morning with "high levels" of carbon monoxide in their blood, according to emergency staff. Authorities say the deadly gas got into their home from a generator outside. They say the same home was the scene of a deadly fire that killed three children back in 1996.

UNC Board Of Governors Member To Leave Board Entirely

(Chapel Hill, NC) -- A former chairman of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors plans on leaving the board entirely. Harry Smith resigned as chairman last month. He announced yesterday his plans to leave the board early next year. Smith says he started his own private equity firm and is too busy now. The General Assembly will fill the newly-opened position.

Trump won those states by a narrow margin in 2016.

Three Bodies Found In Truck In Virginia

(Grayson Co., VA) -- Three bodies found in a remote area in Virginia are believed to be connected to a deadly arson in Alexander County last summer. A hunter found the badly-burned bodies in a truck yesterday in the Mouth of Wilson-area. Grayson County, Virginia sheriff's officials believe they're connected to a June arson that left two people dead. Sixteen-year-old Heidi Wolfe of Wilkesboro and 30-year-old Areli Avilez were charged with first-degree murder in that case. An investigation is ongoing.

Rockingham Co. Boy Hit, Killed During Truck-Or-Treat

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- An eleven-year-old boy is dead after he was hit by an SUV while trunk-or-treating in Guilford County. The boy, who attended Rockingham County Middle School, was hit Friday night near Haw River and Harrell roads in Oak Ridge. Police say he crossed into the path of a Jeep. The boy died of his injuries on Sunday. No charges have been filed.

Ninth Glass Recycling Facility Added In Greensboro

(Greensboro, NC) -- A ninth glass-recycling facility is open in Greensboro. It's located at the Leonard Recreation Center on Ballinger Road. Residents are no longer allowed to recycle their glass bottles and jars in their residential bins.
