Two Suspects In Deadly Shooting To Appear In Court

(Asheville, NC) -- Two suspects charged in a deadly south Asheville shooting are appearing in court today. Marshall Spry was found shot to death outside a home on Reed Street on Thursday. Marteise Hines was arrested for first-degree murder. He'll appear with Isaac White, who is charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder. A 17-year-old murder suspect has already appeared in court.

Police Seek Suspect In Fletcher Shooting

(Fletcher, NC) -- Police are looking for the suspect in a Fletcher shooting. A woman was shot in the leg at the Budget Motel on Underwood Road Friday afternoon. She is expected to survive. Investigators say the suspect may have driven off in a car with a Tennessee plate towards Asheville.

Suspect Arrested In Stabbing

(McDowell County, NC) -- A Bakersville man is being accused in a McDowell County stabbing. Deputies say the suspect and victim started an argument while they were working at a construction site at the McDowell Square Shopping Center on U.S. 70 West. The stabbing happened in the victim's home on Friday. Injuries weren't considered life-threatening. The suspect was arrested for aggravated assault.

Development Planned Next To Hendersonville Airport

(Hendersonville, NC) -- A development is being planned for land next to the Hendersonville airport. WLOS-TV is reporting the city council approved the office and retail space project last Thursday. Three buildings will be constructed on the land. It is expected to include a dozen retail and storage spaces.

Fence Placed Around Sinkhole, Repairs Begin Soon

(Asheville, NC) -- A chain-link fence is surrounding a large sinkhole in Merrimon Avenue in Asheville. City officials have told the owner of the property not to fill the large hole back in with road bond, which has washed away downstream in recent storms. An engineer on the project says it will take a month before items can be delivered to begin permanent repairs to the hole. The hole reached 36 feet in diameter before being filled in unsuccessfully.

Half Of E.Coli-Tested Sites Are Okay

(Asheville, NC) -- Half of the French Broad River sites recently tested for E.coli are up to EPA standard. The numbers come from tests conducted by the French Broad riverkeeper on July 10th. Six of the sites tested with E.coli levels that are twice the safe limit.

One Killed While Car Flees Deputy

(Gastonia, NC) -- Gaston County investigators say one person was killed by a suspect trying to drive away from a deputy Saturday night. The suspect allegedly refused to pull over when the deputy tried to pull the car over for driving erratically. The suspect's car hit two people on Rankin Road, which killed one on impact. The second victim was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The suspect is in custody.

Charlotte Woman Dead In Skydiving Accident

(Chester County, SC) -- A Charlotte woman is dead in a skydiving accident. It happened after she jumped from a plane operating out of Skydive Carolina in Chester County, South Carolina on Sunday afternoon. The business said she was an experienced skydiver. She was allegedly attempting an advanced landing maneuver when she hit the ground. Skydive Carolina says the parachute deployed correctly.

Shooting Kills Two In Southeast Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating a shooting that killed two men in southeast Charlotte. Officers found three men shot early Sunday morning at an apartment complex on Electra Lane. Two men died at the scene, while the third victim was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. There's no word if a suspect has been identified.

Woman Killed In Home Invasion

(Monroe, NC) -- Police are looking for two suspects in a deadly Union County home invasion. Investigators say a woman was shot inside a Tower Court home in Monroe early Friday morning after two men broke in. Two of her children suffered minor injuries. A reward for up to five-thousand-dollars is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

Speed A Factor In Deadly Wreck

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD believes speed and drug use may be factors in a deadly single-car wreck. Investigators say the car was speeding on Brookshire Boulevard early Sunday morning and flipped in the grass median. All three people inside the car were ejected. The impact killed one and injured two. Officers say none of them were wearing seatbelts.

City Considers Dilworth Development

(Charlotte, NC) -- A new apartment development in Dilworth is on the table at tonight's Charlotte City Council meeting. The project includes a 50-unit apartment building and six townhomes off Kenilworth Avenue across from Atrium Health. WSOC-TV says some residents have voiced opposition because of possible increased traffic and height concerns.

Police: Driver Fell Asleep In Fatal U.S. 70 Crash

(Clayton, NC) -- One person is dead after a fatal crash on U.S. Route 70 in Clayton yesterday morning. Authorities say Torey Vernell Rascoe of Clayton was hit by a driver who had fallen asleep and crossed into oncoming traffic. Rascoe was pronounced dead at the scene. That other driver was identified as Gavin Eugene Knight, who now faces charges of careless and reckless driving and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. A breath test on Knight reportedly showed no signs of alcohol consumption.

Woman Found Dead After House Fire In Goldsboro

(Goldsboro, NC) -- A woman was found dead inside her Goldsboro home overnight Saturday following a house fire. The Goldsboro Police Department says the victim was identified as Lovetta Benjamin. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Former Duke Women's Lacrosse Player Dies

(Durham, NC) -- A recent member of the Duke University women's lacrosse team has died. Morgan Rodgers of Warrenton, Virginia was 22 years old when she died last Thursday. Rodgers was on the team in 2016 and 2017 but did not play in 2017 due to an injury. She made the ACC Academic Honor Roll in 2016.

Thomas Hofeller's Files Allowed For Gerrymandering Trial

(Raleigh, NC) -- Some documents on political redistricting from the late Thomas Hofeller [[ HOFF-lur ]], who was known for drawing up the state's districts, are being allowed for use in an upcoming trial. A panel of judges who will be hearing the gerrymandering case in Raleigh that is scheduled to begin today made that decision on Friday. The trial will examine whether GOP lawmakers violated the state constitution by the way House and Senate districts were drawn. The ruling is for 35 documents of the so-called "Hofeller files" to be allowed, out of about 75-thousand total.

(Kill Devil Hills, NC) -- The North Carolina Education Lottery is reporting a million-dollar Powerball ticket winner from the Outer Banks. The lottery says the winning ticket was drawn on Saturday from a Circle K station in Kill Devil Hills. Someone in Tennessee hit the 198-million-dollar jackpot this weekend.

Man Stabbed In Armed Home Invasion, Another Man Arrested

(Statesville, NC) -- A man is under arrest, accused of stabbing another man in a violent home invasion in Iredell County. It happened early Sunday morning on Rosie Apply Lane in Statesville. The homeowner says he was beaten with brass knuckles and stabbed in the head. Donald Blevins was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary, felony assault, kidnapping and other things. An investigation is ongoing.

Three People Sought In Greensboro Robbery, Chase

(Greensboro, NC) -- Police are on the lookout for three people who fled after a robbery and chase in Greensboro. Officers were called to a sports bar near West Gate City Boulevard and Colby Street early yesterday morning. They gave chase and caught up with the suspects near River and Vickery Chapel roads. John Rogers was arrested, but three other people in the car took off on foot. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Pump Prices May Soon Rise

(Greensboro, NC) -- Gas prices could be headed higher in the Triad. Triple-A says a gallon of regular is a penny higher than a week ago at about two-dollars-58-cents. However, prices could start rising even higher due to Tropical Depression Barry in the Gulf of Mexico. This time last month, the price for a regular gallon of gas was two-41.

Illegal Casino Shut Down In Trinity

(Randolph Co., NC) -- State law enforcement officials are shutting down an illegal casino in Randolph County. 62 Blue Arcade in Trinity was raided this past Friday after several community members came forward and complained. Twenty-five game machines, cash and documents were seized. Felony gambling charges are expected to be filed sometime this week.

Chimp At North Carolina Zoo Is Pregnant

(Asheboro, NC) -- North Carolina Zoo officials say one of their chimps is having a baby. Amy is 35-years-old and was born at the NC Zoo. A veterinary team is on hand to make sure her pregnancy goes smoothly.
