APD Believes Armed Robberies Committed By Same Suspect (Asheville, NC)

Asheville Police believe two armed robberies on Sunday night were committed by the same suspect.  The robberies happened within 40 minutes of each other at a Mini-Mart in West Asheville and a convenience store near downtown.  Investigators are still seeking out surveillance footage to get more information. Cash was stolen from both locations.

Asheville Airport Contributes One-Point-Five-Billion To Economy (Asheville, NC)

The North Carolina DOT says the Asheville Regional Airport pumps nearly one-and-a-half-billion-dollars into the economy.  There are more than 70 publicly owned airports in North Carolina that contribute over 50-billion-dollars to the economy.  Asheville Regional supports almost nine-thousand jobs.

Cold And Wind Coming To WNC (Asheville, NC)

Unseasonably warm temperatures in Western North Carolina are soon on the way out.  One more day around 60 degrees today will make way for daytime temperatures that won't crawl above 40 for the rest of the week.  The region is expecting gusting winds tonight and Wednesday, with higher elevations getting hit with winds as high as 55 miles an hour.  

Registered Sex Offender's Bond Set At One-Million (Yancey County, NC)

A registered sex offender is in Yancey County jail on one-million-dollars bond.  WLOS-TV says Brandon Bailey faces new charges of indecent liberties with a child and first degree statutory sexual offense, which are both felony offenses.  He was arrested last Friday.  A Yancey County chief deputy said the office is dedicated to protecting children.

Investigators: Breaking And Entering Suspect Caught In Act At Laundromat (Buncombe County, NC)

A suspect who allegedly stole thousands from two Buncombe County businesses is now facing charges.  Investigators say Justin Adkins was caught in the act with one other suspect after they broke into the Swannanoa Cleaners on Tunnel Road early Saturday morning.  Adkins has been accused of breaking into multiple Swannanoa Cleaners locations and a Zoe's Kitchen restaurant twice.  He was booked on over two dozen charges.

Earthquake Hits Near Canton (Asheville, NC)

Earthquakes continue to be felt in Western North Carolina.  The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 2.2 earthquake hit close to Canton early Monday morning.  It wasn't strong enough to do any damage.  Several earthquakes over the past month have originated in or been felt in Western North Carolina.

Student Shot After Leaving School Bus (Charlotte, NC)

The CMPD is investigating the shooting of a CMS student just after he was dropped off the bus yesterday afternoon.  One witness reported hearing half-a-dozen shots when the student was hit at Timberbrook Drive and Tuckaseegee Road.  He was last reported to be in the hospital with serious injuries.  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is helping the CMPD in the investigation.  

CIAA Tournament Reported To Be Leaving Charlotte (Charlotte, NC)

A college basketball tournament that has made its home in Charlotte for 12 years is reportedly on its way out.  The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association is expected to make an official announcement today that its postseason conference tournament is moving to Baltimore in 2021.  The tournament had an economic impact of 50-million-dollars in the Queen City last spring.  Charlotte Councilman Justin Harlow told WSOC-TV that the CIAA tourney was the largest economic impact the city had.

Regulations Coming For E-Scooters (Charlotte, NC)

Charlotte leaders are soon expected to decide on regulations for e-scooters in the city.  Some of the proposed changes that could be discussed as early as next week include a ban on riding on sidewalks in the City Center and a speed limit cap.  The regulations would also allow the scooter companies to bring in more scooters.  They are currently allowed to have as many as 400 in Charlotte.

Justin Timberlake Visits Charlotte Ahead Of Show (Charlotte, NC)

Mega pop star Justin Timberlake is in the Queen City.  The manager of Midwood Smokehouse on Central Avenue told NBC Charlotte that the Grammy Award-winner popped in for a late lunch on Monday afternoon.  Timberlake also posted an Instagram video from Top Golf in southwest Charlotte last night.  He is performing a sold-out show at the Spectrum Center tonight.

Suspect Arrested For September Murder (Charlotte, NC)

A suspect is now facing murder charges in a September shooting in south Charlotte.  Marquis Smith is accused of shooting a man to death in a parking lot on Conlan Circle near the Blue Olive Lounge.  He turned himself in on Friday.

Council Hires New City Attorney (Charlotte, NC)

Charlotte has a new city attorney.  The city council approved the hiring of Patrick Baker last night.  He has served as city attorney in Durham.  He'll be paid just over 250-thousand dollars.

Woman's Body Found In Forsyth Co. Home (Forsyth Co., NC)

A Forsyth County man is under arrest in Washington, DC on suspicion of killing a woman at his Kernersville-area apartment.  Jaron Kubler turned himself in to Metro Police in D.C. on Sunday.  He reportedly confessed to stabbing a woman to death and leaving her body in his bathroom.  Deputies responded to the man's home and found the victim's body.  Her identity has not been released.

Guilford Co. Sheriff Pleads For Help In County's First Murder (Guilford Co., NC)

Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rodgers is asking for the public's help in solving the department's first murder of 2019.  Twenty-six-year-old Terrazi Smith was killed in a drive-by shooting on Business 85 this past weekend.  Rodgers held a news conference yesterday, pleading for anyone with information to come forward.  The sheriff also asked for the public's help in finding the people involved in a few recent shootings in Greensboro.  

Gun Range Shooting Investigated As Suicide (Rural Hall, NC)

A deadly shooting is under investigation at a Forsyth County gun range.  It happened yesterday afternoon at ProShots Range on Bethania-Rural Hall Road.  Deputies believe the shooting was self-inflicted and say there is no threat to the public.  An investigation is ongoing. 

Portion Of Randleman Road Closed For Manhole Repair Work (Greensboro, NC)

A section of Randleman Road in Greensboro will be closed today for repair work.  Crews will be working on a manhole in the northbound lanes of the 28-hundred block of Randleman.  The roadway is expected to be closed from about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  A detour will be in place.  Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route. 

Piggly Wiggly Coming To Greensboro (Greensboro, NC)

A Piggly Wiggly is coming to Greensboro.  It's set to open soon at the Freeman Mill Square Shopping Center.  The supermarket chain is known for its freshly cut meat counters.

Police Investigate A Raleigh Apartment Shooting (Raleigh, NC)

Raleigh police are investigating an overnight shooting. They say early this morning a man was shot at the entrance of The Oaks apartment complex on New Hope Road. The condition of the victim isn't known and no suspects are in custody.

Wake County Commissioners To Sell Land Earmarked For A Park (Wake Co., NC)

Folks in Wake County are angry because county commissioners want to sell an old golf course that was supposed to become a park.  The 143-acre property known as Crooked Creek Park in Fuquay-Varina was purchased by the county in June.  Yesterday, commissioners voted four-to-three declaring the parcel of land, surplus property.  Community members came to the meeting and spoke out, saying a park would help a lot of kids and that the broken promise would be wrong.

Teacher Accused Of Hitting Special Needs Student (Fayetteville, NC)

A Fayetteville teacher is accused of hitting a student.  ABC-Eleven reports that 37-year-old April Caudill is accused of assaulting a handicapped person.  Court papers say she hit a ten-year-old special needs student twice at J.W. Coon Elementary School with her open hand earlier in the school year.  Caudill is suspended with pay and faces assault charges.

Christian Teacher Fired After Accusations Of Student Sexting (Cumberland Co., NC)

A Cumberland County Christian school teacher accused of sexting a student is out of a job.  Deputies arrested 40-year-old Loretta Nelson last week for allegedly sexting and kissing a 14-year-old boy at Liberty Christian Academy.  She was charged with electronic solicitation of a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor and was sent to jail on 35-thousand-dollars bond.  Nelson could spend 30 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Another Durham Shooting (Durham, NC)

A 15-year-old girl is recovering after yet another shooting in Durham.  She was shot at the Magnolia Point Apartments yesterday.  A 14-year-old girl was injured Sunday in a drive by shooting on North Roxboro Street.  They are both expected to survive.  No arrests have been made, but Mayor Steve Schwel says police are investigating.

Three Murders This Weekend In Rocky Mount (Rocky Mount, NC)

Rocky Mount police are investigating three murders this weekend.  They say two men died from a Carroll Avenue shooting on Saturday and on Sunday another man died in a shooting on Union Street.  All of the victims were targeted and police don't believe they were gang related.  Rocky Mount police say there were witnesses in both cases and ask anyone who saw anything to call Crime Stoppers.

Apex Man Accused Of Exposing Himself To A Minor (Morrisville, NC)

An Apex man is accused of flashing a girl at a shopping center.  A 16-year-old girl says 24-year-old Jeremy Switzer was inside a car when he exposed himself to her near the Morrisville Target store on Sunday.  She quickly snapped a couple pictures, turned them over to the police and Switzer was arrested. He was released from jail and is due back in court next month.
